Many parents may wonder what is PTO?  (PTO) is a formal organization that consists of parents, teacher and school staff.  The organization's goals may vary from school to school, but essentially the goals include volunteerism of parents, encouragements of teachers and students, community involvement, and welfare of students and families.  Gertrude Walker focuses their efforts on fund raising for needs within our building.  In the past few years we have raised money for playground equipment, library books, and technology to help our students' learning.  Look for information about selling pies, Papa John's pizza nights, and Freddy's nights.  In addition to raising funds we like to encourage school spirit.  T-shirts were purchased this year for every student using funds from our fundraisers.

As the school year rolls along and activities increase, I would like to give you some reminders about PTO and thank those who have been involved.  Movie Night in January was a smashing success.  There were nearly 170 students in attendance!  Thank you for allowing your student to stay with us and enjoy a movie.  Our next PTO meeting will be on May 11th.  Daycare is now provided during our meetings, free of charge.  There is also a classroom prize awarded for the classroom  with the most parents in attendance.  I hope to see you May 11th at 6 pm.  Finally, plans are in the works for a Spring fundraiser to raise funds for our technology programs.  Watch for details to come home!

If you are interested in attending our PTO meetings, please contact the GW office for times and dates.  We would love to have you!
